DuMond Conservancy Raises Awareness With The Malagasy Festival

Dancing at the Malagasy Festival at the DuMond Conservancy!

On February 27, 2009 the DuMond Conservancy held a Malagasy Festival at Monkey Jungle to raise awareness about the fragile biodiversity on the island of Madagascar.

The program included four performance/presentations: Reading from bilingual children’s book (The Aye-Aye), Cooking with Vanilla, a talk by National Geographic Explorer Dr. Mireya Meyer on discovering new lemurs, and Drumming with Ndakhte (rhythms, dancers, songs, and stories from Africa). Also on display were Malagasy plants, reptiles, art, and photographs and books and posters were on display featuring Malagasy flora and fauna and culture.

This event was sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Council of Miami-Dade County and the First National Bank of South Florida.  We also thank the Dade Community Foundation and the Lemur Conservation Foundation.
